Week 2 Term 3

Welcome to week 2 and a HUGE congratulations to Ella Greenslade and her very proud big sister Miss G!

SILVER MEDAL!!!!

To celebrate we are having a BLACK OUT Day on Monday, so your child can come dressed in Black, no gold coin needed.

Hope you all had a great holiday break and you are ready for the term ahead. We have been enjoying watching the Olympics and it has been really special to be able to follow Ella and the other athletics on their medal quest!

What's happening this week:

Mon 3rd: Black out day, come dressed in Black to support our Olympic Athletics.

Wed 4th: Vision/Hearing testing @ 9am  (Y7 & 8 plus NE’s)

Thurs: Invitation to all Whānau to chat about our upcoming Te Wiki o te Reo Māori Week @2:15pm in the staffroom.

Fri 6th: Assembly @ 9.15am

Pizza lunch, year 8 fundraiser

PTA School Disco 6-8pm

This week we have enjoyed getting back into learning and are loving seeing that everyone is keen to back at school. We have been talking about friendships and how we can include others and what is looks like and means to be a good friend.

We have also enjoyed getting back into our robust discussion in our P4C sessions and we are really developing our skills around sharing our ideas with detail and making sure others have an opportunity to share their thoughts. This can lead to deep thinking and opinions being changed.

A message from the PTA:

Look out for the Firewood Silent Auction running the next two weeks, starting Monday.
3 separate trailer loads of wood (= three auctions)! The bidding form can be found at the school office.  Auction closes on Friday the13th of August at 3pm.

We need your support:
Can Drive for Community Wellbeing North Canterbury

Agents of Change is our focus value for this term. Agents of change look for opportunities to help others and make a difference in their world.

To put this value into action, we will join in with other schools across North Canterbury to support Cans for a Cause. Please bring items to donate to school next week. Look for the box in your team.

Any non-perishable items that you normally put in your grocery shop make good donations, also everyday items such as cans of food, toiletries, toilet paper and washing up liquid.

Your donation will help make up food parcels that will be given to families in need across the Hurunui and Waimakariri using our network of North Canterbury foodbanks.

Thank you for your support!

SCHOOLS OUT

SCHOOLS OUT

We would like to say a huge thank you for taking the time to come and discuss your child's progress at learning conferences this week and for your support throughout the term. All of our meetings were extremely positive and we hope that you have come away feeling confident about the progress your child has made and seen how much fun we have had this year.

We have had a brilliant term full of creativity and science, and we have loved seeing your children's curiosity flourish.

We are very keen to get students using Studyladder as a tool to support their learning, both in class and at home. Next term we will be reshuffling some of our groups. Once we have set new groups we will send out a new Studdyladder account for each student.

We had lots of questions at learning conferences about how parents can support their child's learning at home. We believe that the best way to support your child is through practising basic facts, learning their heart words and reading with or to your child.

The Tūhura website will have some relevant learning activities on it and we will also do some research and email through some age-appropriate chapter books to inspire your readers.

CAMP: We are wanting to confirm parents help for camp over the holidays, so please fill out the jotform that was sent last week, ASAP, if you wish to be considered for camp.

Here are some photos of term 2:

Have a wonderful and safe break!

Kia ora everyone

Thank you all for your feedback to our survey around Tūhura camp. We have listened to your responses and from this we have changed our camp from a two night, three day to a one night, two day camp. This will be at Woodend Christian Camp from Tuesday 26 October to Wednesday 27 October.  The cost of camp this year is $102 per child, and there will be no charge for parent helpers, as we have absorbed this into the overall cost for each child. This needs to be paid NO LATER than Monday 18 October. Please pay to the Clarkville School account: 12-3240-0099920-00.

Our first step is to select parent helpers for the camp, as the parents selected will need to be police vetted, in accordance with our Health and Safety policy.

When selecting parents for school camps consideration will be given to the following:

  • The suitability of the applicant to meet the physical, emotional and learning needs of the students.

  • The compatibility of the applicant to work with school personnel.

  • Police vetting results showing no convictions or concerns.

  • The specialist skills of the applicant pertaining to the health and safety of children or the activities.

  • For overnight camps priority will be given to the parents of children who have professionally identified special needs which have been previously communicated to the school.

  • The availability of parents to attend the full duration of the camp.

  • The need to have a gender, culture and skill balance.

  • The willingness and ability of the applicant to undertake any of the tasks/activities required on camp.

The final decision around the selection of parents for camp will lie with the Principal.

If you have any questions regarding this notice please feel free to contact any one of us. If you are interested in being considered as a parent on our camp, please complete the jotform in the link provided in the school alert. As soon as we have made our final selection we will notify everyone.
